Gemini AI is Definitely Smart

I'm building a disc-ingestion script for ripping all my DVDs and Blu-rays to my computer so that we can watch all our videos without having to go find the disc, load it into the XBox, find the XBox remote, try to remember which button is "pause" when we need to get a drink or dispose of a drink we got earlier (i.e., visit one of the throne rooms in the house), etc. I've been using Copilot and Gemini for refining the system (which also pokes Gemini API for some intelligent determination of disc to movie/TV listings).

PowerShell terminal window showing DiscIngest.ps1 log output where Gemini API identifies the movie Planet 51 and maps video tracks
The script in action: Gemini identifying "Planet 51" and mapping the video tracks automatically.
I've got a pretty robust script built out now, and am nearly ready to start on the "streaming server" side to connect my (currently tiny, but growing) media library to my smart TV. I'm trying to decide whether JellyFin or Plex is the way to go. After asking Gemini, it gave me a set of pros and cons ("winner table" format) for various info points, and then summed it up like this:

My Suggestion: Since you already have the media folders set up (Movies, Extras), install both. They can point to the exact same folders simultaneously without conflict.

  1. Run Jellyfin (because it's free/open).

  2. Install Plex (free version).

  3. See which interface your wife prefers. That is usually the deciding factor!

Yeah, Gemini, that's pretty smart! Have you been married long? hahaha.
